High-brid

As we were riding in the city bus, Malcolm noticed some purple stripes on the window he hadn't seen before, and I told him I think the city has some new buses. He wasn't so sure this was a new bus, so I suggested we check the roof when we get off. The new buses, I explained, have tall roofs in the back while the old ones are flat. I told him the new ones are hybrids - they say "Clean Air Hybrid" on the tall part in the back. Hybrids use both batteries and gas - like Grandma's Prius, I said. He asked some more questions and seemed to appreciate understanding the difference.

Soon we saw another bus out the window, and he noted the tall roof in the back and pointed out it was a new hybrid bus. Right behind it was an older bus with the flat roof and he said "There's an old one - it's a lowbrid."

  • Malcolm, what a uncluttered idea you have of the language. It reminds me of the story when Billy talked about Daddy(Opa) having a "higher archy" than he.
