Sunflower

It was 10 feet tall when we cut it down to give the tomatoes more sun.

Growing his own

This morning as I was sprinkling brown sugar on Malcolm's oatmeal, he asked "Is sugar a grain?" When I explained that like a grain, it does come from a plant, he wanted to know what kind of plant. After I mentioned the sugar cane plant, he thought for a minute and said "I have an idea, let's plant sugar cane. Every day I'll check for sugar on the sugar cane." (Just like he checks every day for other produce in the garden). No more teaspoon rations on oatmeal or limitations on snitching during baking, he envisions his own stash that he could help himself to at will!

He calls his bike a cheetah

but he says it is also a snail, when we get near intersections.
