Must...finish...puzzle
After dinner Malcolm announced it was a puzzle night and picked out his "city puzzle" - 500 pieces including a lot of similarly colored sky and wet pavement. We reminded him that this is usually a two- or three-day puzzle and agreed to get started. Two-and-a-half hours later (without pausing even for a snack or potty stop) Malcolm fell asleep on the floor with his hand on one of the last few pieces, then woke up with a start and scrambled to finish it up.

Recent tidbits
Mom: Can you give me a tour of the garden? I haven’t seen it in a while because I’ve been sick and I'm excited to see what has grown.
Malcolm: You haven't gone in the garden because you were afraid you might get the plants sick?
(Funny thing is I knew he was going to ask that)
Showing his little dinosaur figure to an adult friend, Malcolm introduces it as Alamosaurus and says “it sounds like Allosaurus, except there is an M in the middle,” then he pronounces it again, exaggerating the middle syllable: “Ala-MO-saurus.”
Mom: Do you think we should set the crib up in your room or in Mom and Dad’s room?
Malcolm: In your room, but if she (Malcolm is sure the baby is a girl) cries, you can just bring her to me for some love.
Malcolm: We'll have to teach the baby not to put dirty things in her mouth, like sewage pipes.

Heat wave
It was 91 yesterday, and 85 today at the airport, possibly even warmer in our backyard. I can only remember a handful of times when we could comfortably wear shorts here, and then it was usually only for a few hours in the afternoon and only in direct sun. Yesterday it was 87 in the shade by 10am and the peas were wilting in the heat, as were we.
With end-of-the-semester craziness, strep throat, bathroom construction, and camera problems our posts have been few lately, and I've missed blog posts for some big days - Happy Birthday, Dad and Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms!
