OAKRIDGE, Ore. (AP) -- A La Pine couple engaged to be married in two
months died when their
car was clipped by another car trying to pass two
semi trucks and knocked into oncoming traffic on
Oregon Highway 58, state police said.
Chauntal J. Aarness, 21, and Kevin Walter McVicker,
22, died at the scene of the crash at 2:30 p.m.
Tuesday, about three miles east of Oakridge.
Aarness' car was knocked into the path of an
oncoming semi and was struck broadside.
The driver of the car that clipped Aarness' car was
identified as Jeffrey Gustafson, 21, of Rancho
Cordova, Calif. He was arrested on two counts of
criminally negligent homicide and reckless driving
and was being held Tuesday night in the Lane County
Jail.
The highway was closed for three hours following the
crash. I tell you this story to tell you some more.
